Richard Hofman

Dick is the Vice President and co-founder of Hofman Safety. Dick brings over twenty-five years of experience in safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental program management.

Dick has provided safety and industrial hygiene services to clients in many industries including: chemicals, transportation, glass manufacturing, heavy & light manufacturing, brick manufacturing, electronics, food/food processing, health care/hospitals, metals, dairy, retail, wholesale, construction, hazardous waste, nuclear & fossil fuel generation, Government (ARNG, municipal, US Mint), textile and printing.

Dick holds a B.S. in Environmental Science from Wilkes University (1978) and is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor (CPEA).

Safety and IH experience includes: plant emergency plans, confined space programs, lockout/tagout and electric safety programs, fire protection plans, chemical management programs, laboratory safety programs, hazard communication programs, asbestos services, OSHA training, noise surveys, medical surveillance programs, respiratory and personal protective equipment determination/training, contractor safety programs, radiation protection, indoor air quality evaluations, ventilation studies, ergonomic assessments and team development, vibration studies, process safety management program development/assessment, process hazard analysis, behavior based safety program implementation, OSHA compliance/enforcement support.

Environmental activities include: air pollution monitoring, waste water and groundwater monitoring, operator-in-charge of biological waste treatment plant, management of a hazardous waste landfill, development of hazardous waste management programs, auditing TSD facilities, hazardous waste site worker training (1910.120), manage transportation of hazardous materials/wastes, emergency training, third party auditor for EPA R112 program, and due diligence property evaluations.

Dick has developed compliance programs for numerous chemicals, and has evaluated health hazards, engineering controls, and safety programs for a wide range of industrial, health care and municipal clients. He also provides training on numerous industrial hygiene and safety topics including: chemical safety, respiratory protection, confined space, and HazWoper.

Prior professional experience includes: Manager of Safety and Industrial Hygiene for a specialty chemical company, and Health and Safety Project Manager for a leading environmental consulting company.

Dick is the current Administrator of the Industrial Hygiene Practices Specialty of the ASSE, a past Regional Vice President of the American Society of Safety Engineers Region VIII, a Past President of the Central PA Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers and was awarded the Region XII Safety Professional of the Year Award for 1996. He is an Adjunct Professor at Wilkes University, Past President of the Central PA Section - American Industrial Hygiene Association.
